Modi's twin push: Drug-free youth, 'vocal for local'

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday reiterated his concern over the drug menace affecting India's youth and called upon content creators and influencers to launch campaigns for a drug-free younger generation.

In his monthly 'Mann ki Baat' address, the PM also urged people to be more "vocal for local" as the festive season kicks in and emphasised they should buy ethnic products. "The 'Nasha-mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat' campaign is currently gaining momentum rapidly across the country. Its goal is absolutely clear: drug-free youth; a drug-free India. I am happy that this campaign has not remained merely a formality; many people, especially our youth, are becoming a part of it in large numbers. After all, this is our collective resolve for the health, happiness, and bright future of India's youth," Modi said.

"Drug addiction does not just engulf a single individual; the entire family and society have to bear the consequences. I would like to commend those who raise awareness against drugs and step forward to help individuals struggling with addiction," the Prime Minister said. Raksha Bandhan marked the beginning of the festive season, which is expected to trigger increased consumer spending in the coming weeks.

The PM once again appealed to people to buy Indian products to boost the domestic economy and thwart attempts by China and other neighbouring countries to flood the market with their goods.
