Modi to be sworn in as CM on Tuesday

Narendra Modi, who secured a convincing win for BJP in Gujarat Assembly polls, will be sworn in on Tuesday as Chief Minister for a third consecutive term.

GANDHINAGAR: Narendra Modi, who secured a convincing win for BJP in Gujarat Assembly polls, will be sworn in on Tuesday as Chief Minister for a third consecutive term.

57-year-old Modi will be sworn in by Governor Naval Kishore Sharma at 12.50 pm in Sardar Patel Stadium here, a BJP statement said.

The swearing-in ceremony will concide with the birthday of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Earlier, Modi was scheduled to be sworn in on December 27.

As a formality, the newly elected BJP MLAs will be meeting here later in the day to elect Modi as the leader of the BJP legislature party.

All the 117 BJP MLAs including Modi who have been elected to the 182-seat strong state assembly will be meeting at the Town Hall here.

After his election, Modi is expected to call on the Governor to formally apprise him of his election as the leader of the BJP legislature party.
