Modi targets PM on inflation, terrorism
Accusing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of not displaying the political will to curb inflation and terrorism, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today asked him to call an all-party meeting on the two issues.
"Prime Minister should call all-party meetings on the issues of terrorism and inflation, the two major problems currently being faced by the nation," he said after unveiling a statue of Chhattrapati Shivaji in Bilimora town of South Gujarat, about 300 km from here.
"Earlier when there was a food crisis, then Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri had appealed to the countrymen to observe fast one day in a week. India responded positively to it and we came out of that crisis," Modi was quoted as saying in an official release here.
"Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should display social leadership by making a similar appeal to the people to control inflation," the BJP leader said.
"I don't understand why the Centre is feeling helpless against terrorism. Shivaji Maharaj has shown us the way by successfully fighting terrorism unleashed by Mughals. The Centre should review its stand on terrorism."
Modi showered praises on the 17th century Maratha warrior, saying he was an ideal Hindu king.
