Narendra Modi, who secured a spectacular win for BJP in Gujarat Assembly polls, took oath on Tuesday as the Chief Minister for a third consecutive term.

GANDHINAGAR: Narendra Modi, who secured a spectacular win for BJP in Gujarat Assembly polls, took oath on Tuesday as the Chief Minister for a third consecutive term.

57-year-old Modi was sworn in by Governor Naval Kishore Sharma at 1.50 pm in Sardar Patel Stadium in Gandhinagar.

His swearing-in ceremony, coinciding with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's birthday, was attended by senior leaders, including L K Advani and Rajnath Singh, and Chief Ministers of BJP and NDA-ruled states - Chhattisgarh, Uttrakhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Orissa.

Earlier, Modi was scheduled to be sworn in on December 27.

On Monday, Narendra Modi met Governor Nawal Kishor Sharma and submitted the resignation of the state Cabinet, following the expiry of the term of the state government.

While accepting the resignations, Sharma had asked Modi to continue as the "care-taker" Chief Minister till the new government is formed.

The Governor also congratulated Modi for his victory in the state Assembly elections.
