AHMEDABAD: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday convened an emergency meeting to review the "internal security" in the state in wake of yesterday's terror attacks in neighbouring Mumbai.

According to officials in the Chief Minister's Office, the CM held a meting with senior ministers and police officials to review the security situation, particularly in the coastal area.

There were reports that the terrorists who carried out the strikes in the financial capital came by boats.

"Modi also called up Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and Home Minister R R Patil and offered all possible help from Gujarat in this hour of crisis," a CMO official revealed.

Modi has condoled the death of innocent civilians and police officials in the attacks, the official said.

"Modi has expressed his desire to visit Mumbai and meet the family and relatives of police officials who were killed in encounter with terrorists last night. But Maharashtra CM Deshmukh requested Modi not to undertake the visit at this moment when the encounter between terrorists and security forces was still on," CM's PRO Jagdish Thakker told.
