Prime Minister Narendra Modi received thunderous applause from Members of Parliament (MPs) representing the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) during a parliamentary meeting on Tuesday.

Amid chants of 'Jai Shri Ram' and 'Har Har Mahadev', the MPs offered the Prime Minister a garland and congratulated him on the success of Operation Sindoor.

A resolution was passed unanimously by NDA MPs lauding the success of both Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev. The Prime Minister was formally felicitated by the alliance on the successful execution of the cross-border strike.

The meeting also observed a moment of condolence for the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, with MPs extending sympathies to the bereaved families.

During the meeting, newly elected MPs were introduced to Prime Minister Modi as part of the NDA’s customary outreach.

NDA Parliamentary Meeting: What's on the agenda?

Modi is set to address the BJP-led NDA parliamentary party meeting, a gathering of the ruling alliance’s MPs that is being held after a considerable gap. This is the second such meeting since the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, after the first on July 2, and the first during the ongoing Monsoon session.

The NDA meeting comes just days before the nomination process for the vice presidential election begins on August 7. With a clear majority in the electoral college — comprising 782 members from the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha — the NDA’s nominee is expected to win comfortably. The last date for filing nominations is August 21, which also marks the end of the current session.

The meeting comes at a time when Parliament has seen repeated disruptions, with the session largely stalled by opposition protests. Except for a two-day discussion on the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor, the Houses have seen little business due to the opposition’s uproar over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar by the Election Commission — an exercise they allege is politically motivated.

In his address, PM Modi is expected to speak on a wide range of current issues, including the opposition’s accusations of partisan conduct by the Election Commission, national security concerns, and the political roadmap ahead.

He is also likely to be formally felicitated by NDA MPs for his government’s strong military response to the terror strike in Jammu and Kashmir, which culminated in Operation Sindoor.

Sources said Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and several BJP national general secretaries are in touch with allies to coordinate the vice presidential election strategy.

Before the 2024 general elections, Modi regularly addressed weekly BJP parliamentary party meetings. Since the BJP lost its solo majority but retained power with allies, these meetings have been expanded to include NDA constituents such as the TDP, JD(U), and LJP (Ram Vilas).

These meetings are typically attended by all MPs of the ruling alliance, where Modi often outlines the government's legislative priorities and political messaging. He is also known to offer MPs talking points to amplify in their constituencies and public interactions.
