With an eye on Rajasthan Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a rally in Ajmer on Wednesday and kickstart month-long celebrations to mark completion of nine years in power at the centre.

Modi will first offer prayers at Brahma temple at Pushkar. The celebrations will begin on the Nirjala Ekadashi, considered the most auspicious day to worship Lord Vishnu. According to sources, the Prime Minister will land in Kishangarh airport and travel by chopper to Pushkar temple. He will offer prayers from 3.40 to 4 pm and also visit the temple ghats. He will then travel to Kayad Vishram Sthali in Ajmer where he will address a rally. Central ministers Arjun Meghwal and Kailash Choudhary will also be present in the rally.

The choice of Ajmer in poll-bound Rajasthan to kickstart the celebrations is interesting as the BJP had lost a majority of the Assembly seats in the neighbouring districts in the 2018 elections. State BJP sources told ET that the party is mobilising 2 lakh workers from across eight parliamentary constituencies for the rally. "It is a show of strength as this is PM's first rally in Rajasthan from where he will kickstart the state campaign," a state BJP leader said.

BJP workers from 45 Assembly constituencies in seven neighbouring districts (Ajmer, Tonk, Nagaur, Bhilwara, Rajsamand, Jaipur and Pali) will be attending the rally.
