Sources said on July 25, Modi will complete 4078 days in office, becoming the second longest consecutive serving PM of India, surpassing Indira Gandhi who was PM consecutively for 4077 days from January 24, 1966 to March 24, 1977. Jawaharlal Nehru holds the record for being the longest serving term of 16 years, 286 days without a break.
The first prime minister to be born after Independence, Modi is the longest serving non-Congress PM and also the first to complete two full terms in the high office. Since Indira Gandhi, he is the only sitting PM to have been re-elected with a majority (in 2019).
Sources asserted that Modi is the only among prime ministers and chief ministers to win six consecutive elections as leader of a party, winning Gujarat polls in 2002, 2007, 2012 and then the Lok Sabha elections in 2014, 2019 and 2024.
