Earlier this month, PTI had reported that the govt may soon launch the plan.
The Narendra Modi led government at the Centre is mulling to offer 43-55 litres of water per person per day to every rural Indian household by 2024 under its Jal Jeevan Mission, according to a report of Hindustan Times.

The scheme was announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during this year's Budget. Sitharaman had then announced that the Shakti Ministry will work with states to ensure that every rural house gets water by 2024 under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

Now as per a latest report, the govt is planning to offer 43-55 litre of water per person per day. This may vary depending on the season.

A dedicated fund called Rashtriya Jal Jeevan Kosh will be set up for the mission on the lines of Swachh Bharat Kosh which was set up to take care of the sanitation mission.

The scheme is likely to attract massive investments in the field of water and sanitation in the coming years.

The Jal Shakti Ministry was formed by merging the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation and Water Resources and Ganga Rejuvenation when the Modi government returned to power.

Since every state and region has its own peculiar needs, the scheme will not be straight jacket and will have flexibility.
