Modi government to bring UN curbs against LeT leader Hafiz Saeed's family
India’s earlier effort to bring such UN sanctions against Hizbul Mujahedeen chief Syed Salahuddin was blocked by China.

Sources in the government told ET that this will be a “collaborative” US-India effort to designate the three individuals as international terrorists under the UN Security Council Resolution 1267 of the Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee. India’s earlier effort to bring such UN sanctions against Hizbul Mujahedeen chief Syed Salahuddin was blocked by China.
The UNP Division of the foreign ministry will be forwarding the proposal to the UN after intelligence agencies have firmed up a dossier on the three men. All the three men already face sanctions from the US Treasury Department while Rauf ’s charity, Falah-i-Insaniat Foundation (FIF), was designated as a terrorist entity by the US State Department in 2010. “The UN sanctions will help India’s case in action against these individuals,” a top government official said.
