Modi government gets RSS support for Land Bill; organisation to reach out to farmers

RSS-leaning Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh's protests against the bill will ease, said ET Now, which will boost NDA's push for the legislation.

Modi government gets RSS support for Land Bill; organisation to reach out to farmers
In a move that could be a huge shot in the arm for the Modi Government that is battling an anti farmer image, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh- the ideological fountain head of the BJP- has decided to throw its weight behind the contentious Land Bill. Sources say the RSS and its affliates have realised the benefits that will accrue to farmers if the proposed Land Bill and will ensure the message is communicated to the farmer. With the Modi Government battling anti farmer image, RSS' support could be a deal clincher.

Sources say, RSS will reach out to all aggrieved parties through its affiliates to explain the trickle down impact the Land Bill will have on the economy and on farmers.

"Acquisition of land adjacent to the proposed industrial corridors will boost the local economy and give employment to farmers. Compensation that is being offered is also something that’s justifiable," said a source privy to the development.

RSS recognised the need for better outreach program for farmers and will ask all its organisations with the new campaign.

In fact, the right leaning Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh will also be asked to tone down its agitation against the Land Bill.

" We cant ask them to withdraw due to their own considerations but the tone of the agitation will definitely change," said an RSS source.

The development could see the Modi Government getting its key legislation passed in the Monsoon Session.

Opposition parties had stonewalled the passage of the Land Bill in Rajya Sabha forcing the Government to refer it to a 30-member Joint Committee of the House. The Government has promugated the ordinance for Land twice but NDA's minority in the Upper House has meant the key legislation has not yet been passed. The Joint Committee will submit its report on the first day of the Monsoon Session.
