Modi government asks ministries to use video-conferencing for official work

NEW DELHI: The Modi government has asked all ministries to use video-conferencing as far as possible for their official work, with an eye on saving the time and costs entailed in convening physical meetings.

Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth has urged secretaries to government departments to “interact with state chief secretaries and other senior functionaries using video conferencing mode to the extent possible“, in a missive sent last Friday.

Video conferencing, Seth wrote, is very useful for conducting meetings “as it saves the precious time of government functionaries and reduces expenditure“.

In September last year, the government had told secretaries to stay put in the capital and avoid travelling within or outside India.
