PM Modi cites Kabir couplet to say opposition attack all chaff
Trying to convey that the opposition rhetoric against his government had no substance, Modi said, "Saar-saar ko gahi rahe, thotha deyee udai".
Wondering why the opposition brought the no-confidence motion when it does not have the required numbers in the Lok Sabha, PM Modi recited part of a couplet by Saint Kabir. Trying to convey that the opposition rhetoric against his government had no substance, Modi said, "Saar-saar ko gahi rahe, thotha deyee udai".
This line is part of a Kabir couplet, 'Sadhu aisa chaahiye, jaisa soop subhaiye . Saar-saar ko gahi rahe, thotha deyee udai' which roughly means the wise man should be able to separate the wheat from the chaff.
Modi implied the opposition attack on his government was all chaff and he could not find any substance in it. Probably he was hinting at Congress president Rahul Gandhi's show of goodwill towards him when Rahul came to hug Modi after his speech.
