Modi calls GST Good and Simple tax: 11 things prime minister said about India's landmark tax

In the making since 2000, the Goods and Services Tax ( GST) got a big endorsement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who called it India's biggest move since Independence.

In his speech before the big launch at Parliament's central hall, Modi recalled Jawaharlal Nehru's tryst with destiny speech, calling the venue the perfect launchpad for GST that would make India independent of multiple taxes that stymie business and the country's economy.
