Modi 3.0 Cabinet: BJP's master strategist Amit Shah remains in charge of the Home Ministry

Two-term national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Amit Shah has remained in charge of the Home Ministry. The development came a day after he took oath as Union Minister under PM Narendra Modi-led government's third term.

The 59-year-old BJP leader and BJP's key strategist also served as the Union Home Minister in the previous Modi government.

Shah secured a significant victory in Gujarat's Gandhinagar constituency, garnering 7,44,716 votes more than his closest competitor. His total vote count amounted to 10,10,972, surpassing the 2,66,256 votes received by the Congress candidate, Sonal Patel.

Shah expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a post on X, for reassigning the roles of Minister of Home Affairs and Minister of Cooperation.



Shah's first big challenge
As home minister, Amit Shah faces the first big challenge related to terrorism, after a gruesome terror attack on a bus in the Reasi district of J&K on Sunday. The incident brought back the dark memories of 90s, when terrorists used to target civilians in these parts of Jammu, which were considered safe in the last decade.

Reacting to the incident yesterday, Shah said, "Deeply pained by the incident of the attack on pilgrims in Reasi, J&K. Spoke to the Lieutenant Governor and the DGP, J&K, and inquired about the incident. The culprits of this dastardly attack will not be spared and will face the wrath of the law. The local administration is working on a war footing to provide immediate medical attention. May the Almighty give the loved ones of the deceased the strength to bear this pain. I also pray for the speedy recovery of the injured".

Nine people were killed and 33 others injured after terrorists fired upon a bus carrying pilgrims in Reasi district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday. The bus driver lost control after hit by a bullet and then the bus rolled down a gorge.

According to the police, the event transpired at 6:10 pm when terrorists fired upon the bus returning from the Shiv Khoti temple to Katra. Local villagers, in collaboration with law enforcement, successfully evacuated all passengers by 8:10 pm. Superintendent of Police Reasi oversaw the evacuation process and promptly transported the injured to various hospitals.
