'Modest' Modi to take oath as Gujarat CM today

Narendra Modi, who secured a convincing win for BJP in Gujarat Assembly polls, will be sworn in on Tuesday as the Chief Minister for a third consecutive term.

GANDHINAGAR: Narendra Modi, who secured a convincing win for BJP in Gujarat Assembly polls, will be sworn in on Tuesday as the Chief Minister for a third consecutive term.

57-year-old Modi will be sworn in by Governor Naval Kishore Sharma at 12.50 pm in Sardar Patel Stadium in Gandhinagar, a BJP statement said.

The swearing-in ceremony coincides with the birthday of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Earlier, Modi was scheduled to be sworn in on December 27.

On Monday, Narendra Modi met Governor Nawal Kishor Sharma and submitted the resignation of the state Cabinet, following the expiry of the term of the state government.

While accepting the resignations, Sharma asked Modi to continue as the "care-taker" Chief Minister till the new government is formed.

The Governor also congratulated Modi for his victory in the state Assembly elections.
