Moderate quake strikes north of Andaman Islands

A moderate earthquake struck north of India's Andaman Islands early Thursday, the US Geological Survey said.

PORT BLAIR: A moderate earthquake struck north of India's Andaman Islands early Thursday, the US Geological Survey said.

The 5.2-magnitude quake hit at 01:59 am (2029 GMT Wednesday) at a depth of 35 kilometres (22 miles).

The quake's epicentre was just over 200 km (124 miles) north of the archipelago which lies in the Bay of Bengal, the USGS said.

There were no immediate reports of any damage or casualties and no tsunami warning was immediately issued.
