Moderate quake in parts of North India, no damage reported

A moderate earthquake today rocked Kashmir Valley, Punjab and Haryana but there were no reports of any loss of life or damage to property.

SRINAGAR/CHANDIGARH: A moderate earthquake today rocked Kashmir Valley, Punjab and Haryana but there were no reports of any loss of life or damage to property.

People scampered out of their homes in panic in the Valley as the quake, lasting a few seconds, struck at 1729 hours.

Mild tremors were also felt in many parts of Punjab, Haryana and the Union Territory of Chandigarh, officials said adding no loss of life or damage to property was reported.

The epicentre of the temblor, measuring six on the Richter scale, was Hindukush region in Afghanistan, the MeT department said.
