GUWAHATI: Two youths were lynched by a mob on Sunday in Kachomari village in central Assam’s Nagaon district suspecting them to be cow thieves.

The deceased have been identified as Abu Halifa and Aiyazuddin Ali, both hailing from the district’s Noramari area.

A senior police officer said, “The duo was trying to lift cows from the grazing field when villagers spotted them. Soon after receiving information police rushed to the spot, the duo succumbed to the injuries in the hospital.”

Police officer added, “We are going to collect the video footage to identify who had taken law in their hands.”

An FIR has been lodged and investigation is on. Last year also, a similar incident took place when one person died in mob lynching.
