MUMBAI: Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navanirman Sena ( MNS) went on the rampage and destroyed booths and equipment at various road toll collection plazas in several cities of Maharashtra on Monday after the leader’s exhortation to party members on Sunday not to pay road toll and to launch an agita tion against its collection.

Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on the Mumbai-Pune expressway, at several points as MNS workers attacked the toll plazas causing traffic disruption. In Mumbai, Dahisar, Navi Mumbai and Thane toll plazas were attacked by MNS activists.

Over 20 MNS members, including party's Mumbai MLA Pravin Darekar, were detained by the local police for these attacks and disruption. BJP and Shiv Sena had jointly announced a few days ago that they will make Maharashtra a toll-free state if the alliance comes to power.
