MNS activists attack Indiabulls offices in Mumbai, Amaravati

MUMBAI: Water scarcity in some parts of Maharashtra has caused trouble for Indiabulls.

The company’s offices in Mumbai and Amravati were attacked on Sunday and Monday by activists of Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navanirman Sena after Thackeray criticised Indiabulls for ‘drawing water from dams in Vidarbha’ for the power plant in Amaravati district.

Water scarcity has hit 16 districts in Maharashtra. Most of the drought area is in Marathwada region but Amaravati district in Vidarbha has also been affected badly.

The state government had announced earlier that water from the dams will not be released to industry and even for agriculture till monsoon, as stocks have to be conserved for drinking.

However some reports in regional media suggested that water was given to the power plant run by Indiabulls in Amaravati. Indiabulls spokesperson was not available for comment.

Raj Thackeray held a rally in Amaravati on Sunday and targeted the company. “When cattle are dying because there is no water in this area how can a commercial project be given water,” Raj asked.

Within a couple of hours of Raj finishing his speech, Indiabulls office in Lower Parel area of Mumbai was attacked by a bunch of MNS activists. They pelted stones and damaged the area near the main gate of the premises. Mumbai police arrested four persons who led the group.
