Mizoram Assembly Speaker disqualifies leader of opposition under anti-defection law

In 2018, Lalduhoma won from Serchhip assembly seat and allegedly later defected to Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), which is the alliance of seven regional parties. He was defeated by five-time chief minister Lal Thanhawla from Serchhip.

GUWAHATI: Mizoram Assembly Speaker Lalrinliana Sailo on Friday disqualified Leader of the opposition in Mizoram legislative assembly Lalduhoma from assembly under anti-defection law.

In 2018, Lalduhoma won from Serchhip assembly seat and allegedly later defected to Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), which is the alliance of seven regional parties. He was defeated by five-time chief minister Lal Thanhawla from Serchhip.

Around 12 MLAs from the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) in September this year has moved the speaker, seeking disqualification of Lalduhoma under anti-defection law.


He was served notice on September 24 following which he submitted his reply on October 8. Lalduhoma reportedly claimed that he did not defect to any other party as he continuously maintained his allegiance to the ZPM since its formation.
