Mizoram Assembly adopts resolution on UN declaration on Rights of Indigenous Peoples

The Mizoram Assembly today unanimously adopted a private member resolution on the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, moved by Leader of Opposition Vanlalzawma of the Mizo National Front (MNF).

AIZAWL: The Mizoram Assembly today unanimously adopted a private member resolution on the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, moved by Leader of Opposition Vanlalzawma of the Mizo National Front (MNF).

The adopted resolution - This House is grateful to the Indian Union for taking steps to implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and expresses the wish that it would continue to do so in future.

"Cutting across party lines, legislators from both the ruling Congress and the Opposition expressed hope that all ethnic Mizos will again unite under a single administrative unit," the members said while adopting the resolution.

Fifteen legislators including Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla, home minister R Lalzirliana and parliamentary affairs minister R Romawia participated in the discussion.
