WASHINGTON: A top Obama aide today defended Obama administration's response to the fatal attack on a US Consulate in Libya and accused Republican presidential Mitt Romney of trying to exploit the issue.

President Barck Obama's campaign adviser David Axelrod said the Administration is determined to get to the bottom of the facts and bring to justice those responsible for it.

He denied the allegations that the Administration has mislead on the information and said that Romney was trying to exploit the issue.

"There is no doubt he is working hard to exploit this issue," Axelrod told the Fox News in an interview.

"From the beginning of the issue, before any facts were known, he was cravenly trying to exploit it," Axelrod alleged, but noted that he expects that that Libya issue to pop up during the remaining days of the presidential election campaign.

US Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens had died in the terrorist attack on the US Consulate in Benghazi.
