KOLKATA: Actor turned politician, Mithun Chakraborty today deposited Rs 1.9 crore with the office of the Enforcement Directorate in Kolkata. Chakraborty had taken the money from Saradha CMD Sudipta Sen for an event.

Chakraborty was grilled by the investigators several times for his involvement in the scam. As per the sources, the ED sleuths had documents that allegedly show a payment of Rs 2 crore being made by the Saradha Group to Mithun. The transaction, which is on record, was carried out from a Saradha bank account, sources said.

Chakraborty is said to have told the investigators that he took the payment from Sen and he was made the brand ambassador of the company. Chakraborty furtherexplained to the ED that he was associated with Saradha as a part of his‘professional” commitment.

However, he did not appear in the event for which he was paid. During the investigation, Chakraborty agreed to return the money he had taken from Sen. Today his lawyer deposited the amount with the investigators of ED.
