Sister Nirmala Joshi, who succeeded Mother Teresa as the head of Missionaries of Charity, died at the age of 81 on Tuesday.

KOLKATA: Sister Nirmala Joshi, who succeeded Mother Teresa as the head of Missionaries of Charity, died at the age of 81 on Tuesday.

Sister Nirmala took over as the superior general of the Kolkata-based organisation after the Nobel laureate's death in 1997.

"Saddened at the passing of Sister Nirmala who headed Missionaries of Charity after Mother Teresa. Kolkata and the world will miss her," West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee tweeted on Tuesday on her death.
