Miscreants fired on the Border Security Force (BSF) troops at border outpost Putiabaramasia in West Bengal's Coochbehar district in the wee hours of Monday, officials said.

In a statement BSF stated, “On 21st February, ambush-cum-patrolling party of border outpost Putiabaramasia of 100 BN under Frontier Headquarter BSF Guwahati, which comes under Police station Sitalkuchi, District Coochbehar (West-Bengal) noticed suspicious movement of 20-25 miscreants from Bangladesh side and 18-20 miscreants on India side along with cattle heads moving towards Indo- Bangladesh Border Fence.”

“To disperse the miscreants Ambush-cum-patrolling party threw chilly grenade towards them. But the miscreants didn't stop and fired 04 to 05 rounds possibly from a .32 Pistol from a distance of about 40 to 50 Meters, further in self-defense Ambush Cum Patrolling Party fired 01 round on miscreants. Meanwhile miscreants managed to escape by taking advantage of foggy weather.This is the second incident in recent times, when Miscreants have fired on Troops on duty. Similar incident took place on December 31, 2020,” the statement added.
