The delegation led by Mirwaiz comprised Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, Aga Syed Hassan Al-Mosvi, Aga Syed Hadi Al-Mosvi, and Aga Syed Mujtaba who met the Ambassador Dr. Mohammad Fathali, and other officials in New Delhi.
The delegation conveyed condolences on the martyrdom of Khamenei , his family members and other leadership and expressed deep solidarity with the people of Iran in their hour of invasion and hardship.
"Martyrdom of Khamenei, the prominent and respected leader of the Muslim Ummah is deeply saddening. We express serious concern and condemn the ongoing war imposed on Iran by United States and Israel and hope that diplomatic efforts will prevail to bring an end to this aggression, restoring peace and stability," read the MMU statement.
The delegation also highlighted the deep-rooted cultural, historical, and religious ties between Kashmir and Iran, noting that Kashmir has long been referred to as “Iran-e-Sagheer” (Little Iran), reflecting the "enduring bonds between the two peoples."
The MMU, an amalgam of over 50 religious organizations across J&K and Ladakh, reiterated that unity, steadfastness, and collective prayers for peace are the need of the hour for the "muslim Ummah" to face these challenges.
Mirwaiz also recorded his deep sense of grief and sorrow in the condolence book at the embassy over the tragic events in Iran, paying rich tributes on behalf of the people of J&K to Khamenei, and other senior leaders.
In his message Mirwaiz wrote, that "the Ummah has lost a towering and influential leader whose voice and presence resonated far beyond borders. The leadership and people of J&K extend their heartfelt condolences and stand in firm solidarity with the people of Iran in this hour of grief and trial. May Allah grant him maghfirah and bestow strength, patience, and dignity upon his people.”
Meanwhile, Mirwaiz with delegation also visited the Iran Culture House in New Delhi, where he conveyed condolences on behalf of the people of J&K to the Counsellor and other officials.
Meanwhile former chief minister of J&K Mehbooba Mufti said that the remarkable sense of brotherhood that Kashmiris have displayed during the Iran-Israel conflict has unsettled many who thrive on division.
"There are deeply troubling reports that certain elements are attempting to exploit some self styled religious figures and sections of our youth using social media to sow seeds of misunderstanding between Shia and Sunni communities," Mufti wrote on X adding, "This appears to be a calculated effort to fracture our bonds especially at a time when a rare and precious unity has emerged." Mufti urged that people must stand firm, united and vigilant to thwart such attempts and protect the harmony that defines the region.
