NEW DELHI: All India Minorities Front President S M Asif has urged the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, to introduce a bill during the forthcoming Budget Session of Parliament to grant Constitutional status to the Minorities Commission.

He said that if the government is sincere in what it has been claiming so far, then it should not delay the tabling of the bill.

Stating that minorities are a depressed, oppressed and harassed section of society, it is the duty of the government to ensure a feeling of equity, equality and justice in them.

Asif said that the Government has been claiming that it has studied the plight of the minority communities and wants its development, but in practicality, the results are not seen.

Implementation of recommendations of Sachhar Committee report are getting delayed and the percentage of members of minority communities in government jobs and police forces is declining, which is a matter of grave concern.

He urged the Prime Minister not to call an all party meeting immediately and bring the bill unanimously so that it has an easy passage.

Even if some fundamentalists wish to oppose, let them get exposed before the country and the Government should fulfill its commitment to the members of minority communities.
