The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is looking at evolving a better system of testing and issue of driving licences.

NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is looking at evolving a better system of testing and issue of driving licences.

Stating this, the Minister for Road Transport and Highways C P Joshi told CEOs of automobile industry that a portal had been launched to create a National Register with database of all vehicles and driving licences in the country.

The Ministry is trying to accord road transport the high priority it deserves, he said.

Joshi said road transport is meant to provide mobility to the people besides carrying goods for economic activity.

It is also used for social interaction, educational pursuits and a myriad other activities, an official release quoted him as saying on the occasion.

Road Secretary A K Upadhyaya and senior officers of the ministry were also present, it said.
