Ministries told to speed up switchover to LED lights
NEW DELHI: Stepping up efforts to go green, finance secretary Ashok Lavasa has written to all ministries to expedite the switchover to energy-efficient LED lights at the earliest.

So far, response of the ministries has been lukewarm. Central Public Works Department, the nodal agency for the LED-based switchover in all government buildings, has received only one proposal from Lok Sabha Secretariat.

A senior official who did not want to be identifed told ET, “We have received a proposal from Lok Sabha Secretariat. These initiatives take time.” The finance ministry had first asked all ministries to send their plans for the switchover on August 4.

The directive also included a model memorandum of understanding (MoU) that had to be signed between the agency undertaking the task and the ministry. Lavasa had asked ministries to send their proposals by August 15.
