Unidentified militants hurled a grenade at the residence of a government official in Manipur, police said today.

IMPHAL: Unidentified militants hurled a grenade at the residence of a government official in Manipur, police said today.

The militants lobbed a grenade at the house of executive engineer of state electricity department, Rajbabu at Kabo Leikai in Imphal East district at around 7.20 PM last night.

A two-wheeler was damaged in the explosion, but the official and his family members were safe, they said.

Inquiries found out that a militant outfit had earlier demanded Rs 10 lakh from the official.

Police said different militant outfits have been attacking the residences of officials, government contractors and businessmen frequently in the past few months to press for their monetary demands.
