Srinagar: A probe by National Investigation Agency has revealed that Hizb-ul-Mujahideen terrorist Syed Naveed, who was arrested along with deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Davinder Singh earlier this month, was allegedly in touch with a former independent legislator from Kashmir.

The NIA sleuths held discussions with the suspended cop’s family at Indira Nagar in Srinagar earlier this week. They also visited Singh’s office at Srinagar international airport, where he was posted in the an-ti-high jacking wing. The officials were tightlipped about the exact relations of Naveed with the legislator.

“A NIA team visited the house of Singh on Monday and also visited his office at the airport,” a senior official told ET. Singh, was arrested along with Naveed and two Hizb associates Rafi Ahmaed and Irfan Mir in Kulgam while they were on their way to Jammu. Singh was accused of facilitating the movement of the Hizb commander to Jammu.

Later, the officials also arrested Naveed’s brother. All the five people are currently in 15- day custody of NIA. The NIA had booked Davinder and four others under Arms Act, Explosive Substance Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and recovered 32 items from them, including an AK-47 rifle, US and China-made pistols and ammunition.

NIA is also probing the wider network of Singh and what was the exact role of Mir, who seems to be the primary link between the police official and the Hizb commander.

Mir’s frequent visits to Pakistan are being scrutinised as well.
