Mild quake in Sangli

An earthquake of moderate intensity was felt early Wednesday morning near Sangli in Western Maharashtra, sources in Police Control Room said.

SANGLI: An earthquake of moderate intensity was felt early Wednesday morning near here in Western Maharashtra, sources in Police Control Room said.

Magnitude of the quake, whose epicentre was 13.6 km from Koyna Dam, was 4.8 on the Richter scale, they said. There has been no damage to the dam, which is filled to its capacity, the sources said.

There were no reports of any loss of life or damage to property in the tremor which was felt at 3.17 am and lasted for 30 seconds, they added.
