Mid-term polls any time next year: Venkaiah Naidu

The country would face mid-term elections any time next year due to inherent contradictions in the ruling UPA-Left over various issues, senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu said today.

HYDERABAD: The country would face mid-term elections any time next year due to inherent contradictions in the ruling UPA-Left over various issues, senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu said today.

"The UPA and Left Parties came together only to prevent BJP from coming to power. But there is no convergence of views on a number of issues. These inherent contradictions will lead to mid-term polls," Naidu told reporters here.

"The general elections would be held any time next year before schedule as political situation had changed dramatically after the UPA-Left stand-off on the nuclear deal with US," Naidu said.

Sharply attacking the ruling coalition, he said the Left parties oppose the UPA government on almost every important policy matter, economic, internal and external affairs. "The nuclear deal with US is just one of them."

"This is an unnatural alliance. The UPA government has lost its credibility and it has been facing instability," the BJP leader claimed.

Naidu said the BJP's national executive would meet in New Delhi on September one and two to take stock of the political situation in the country.
