NEW DELHI: Christian Michel, a British national, is wanted in India in connection with the Rs 3,700-crore AgustaWestland VVIP choppers scam. Interestingly, Michel’s father Wolfgang Max Richard Michel was also a consultant of AgustaWestland (UK) for the Indian territory in 1980s and had acted as a mediator in other countries as well.

According to a CBI statement, Wolfgang Michel promoted three companies— Entera Corporation, UCM International Trading Limited and Ferro-Imports Limited. Between 1987 and 1996, Entera Corporation is said to have earned more than £2 million from India.

An earlier news report said Entera Corporation went bankrupt in 2004, "with more than £1.3 million in debt". Additionally, Christian Michel was barred from doing business in the UK for seven years. The report said this "is when he appears to have shifted base to Dubai, where he floated Global Services FZE".

The CBI statement also mentions Michel’s mother and sister. Valerie Fooks, Michel’s mother, is running a trust in the name of Queda Educational Foundation which is providing financial assistance to beneficiary students from India for their education in foreign countries.

“Sasha Ozeman, his sister, had been in the news for standing by Christian Michel and made public statements pertaining to the involvement of Michel in the VVIP Chopper deal case,” the statement said.
