The ministry’s notification of September 25 regarding merging the posts of DSP of Chandigarh Police with those of DANIPS has been kept in abeyance till further orders, the ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
A senior ministry official said that a handful of Chandigarh police officials who were on the verge of retirement had taken legal recourse to stop implementation of merger of the two cadre services since they did not want to move out of the city towards the end of their careers.
At the same time, the official said, the move would open up promotion avenues for the Chandigarh police cadre if their service got merged with DANIPS.
Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh wanted status quo to be maintained in Chandigarh, which is also the capital of neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana.
