Home Ministry asks NIA to probe Khalistani organisations

New Delhi: Pro-Khalistan groups have “entered into a conspiracy to create an atmosphere of fear and lawlessness and cause disaffection in people and to incite them towards rising in rebellion towards the government of India”, said the ministry of home affairs in a fresh complaint to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The development comes in the wake of the month long standoff between the Centre and farmers’ groups.

The home ministry also asked NIA to probe Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), Khalistan Tiger Force and Khalistan Zindabad Force. All these organisations are banned under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for allegedly supplying “large amounts of funds” to “pro-Khalistani elements in India through NGOs”.


According to the MHA order, based on which the NIA registered the FIR, three persons, namely Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, Paramajit Singh Pamma and Hardeep Singh Nijjar, were all designated as militants under UAPA “for collecting huge funds for on ground campaign and propaganda against the government of India, including staging demonstration outside Indian mission in countries like the USA, UK, Canada and Germany”.

“SFJ leadership has planned large-scale disruptive activities to damage government and private properties and also disrupt supplies and services essential to the life of the community of India,” stated the FIR registered under various sections of UAPA.
