MFN status to India likely soon: Asfayender Khan

Asfandyar Wali Khan said that there is a consensus among the ruling coalition that the bill is going to be passed in both Houses, the National Assembly and the Senate.

NEW DELHI: President of Awami National Party, which is part of the ruling coalition in Pakistan, on Saturday said the bill to grant Most Favoured Nation status to India may be passed in the next session of Pakistani Parliament.

Asfandyar Wali Khan, grandson of the legendary Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan said that there is a consensus among the ruling coalition that the bill is going to be passed in both Houses, the National Assembly and the Senate.

"It has to come to the Assembly. I think you know where majority stands. Majority of Liberal, Democrats and I think there is a consensus among the allies that they are going to accept the fact that this bill is going to go through both Houses whether it is National Assembly or Senate."

When asked how soon it would be done, Khan said they have convened a joint sitting after which whenever Parliament is convened, the bill is likely to go through.

On a question regarding Pakistan Prime Minister's statement that the Army is on board on the issue of granting MFN status to India, he said he does not doubt the remarks of his PM.
