Metro train services may resume from September 1, reopening of school unlikely, say officials
Metro rail services may be allowed from September 1 when the 'Unlock 4' phase in the graded reopening from the coronavirus-induced lockdown begins, but schools and colleges will not reopen immediately, an official said.

The development comes a day after Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal urged the Centre to reopen Delhi Metro on a trial basis. Metro services were suspended in late March, when the government imposed a nationwide lockdown to combat the spread of Covid-19.
Educational institutions, schools and colleges are likely to remain suspended. The decision, officials said, was taken after seeking inputs from the state government and educational institutions. Bars, which have so far not been allowed to reopen, may be permitted to sell liquor over the counter for takeaway. Cinema halls will remain shut and congregations are likely to remain barred.
A nationwide lockdown was imposed from March 25 and extended till May 31, after which the Centre permitted opening up of the economy subject to guidelines on Covid-19. Two sets of guidelines have been announced by the National Executive Council, chaired by the home secretary, which acts on the directions of the PM-headed NDMA.
