BENGALURU: Nearly an hour-long thunderstorm, accompanied by gusty winds and lightning, played spoilsport for many city residents who were out to enjoy the weekend. Several localities suffered blackouts, motorists were stuck on the road, Metro services were disrupted and at least five trees uprooted due to the rains.

The meteorological department has warned of thunderstorms in the next two days as well.

The BBMP said at least trees were uprooted in Lumbini Garden, Sultanpalya, Vidyaranyapura, Sahakara Nagar and Badra Layout. “There were no complaints of flooding as the rain did not last long,” an official said.

For at least half an hour, several places in the city suffered power cuts, causing inconvenience to a larger number of people. All those out of their homes, especially motorists, struggled the most as there were no street lights.

The rains affected the metro services, too. Officials could not run services between Baiyappanahalli and Indiranagar as the third line could not receive power supply from the depot. Services were affected between 7.23 pm and 8.01 pm. During this period, short loop operations were done between Indiranagar and Mysore Road stations, officials said.
