Mehbooba Mufti shifted to new location

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir administration shifted former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti to government quarters on Maulana Azad Road in the city centre from the government guesthouse turned sub-jail in Chashma Shahi.

Mufti has now been detained behind Banquet Hall on MA road which was the residence of her father and then chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed during the first PDP-Congress government in 2002-2008. She has been shifted to house number 5 in Transport Lane.

Like former CMs Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, of the National Conference, PDP chief Mufti has been in detention since August 5, when the Union government abrogated Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, and bifurcated the state into two Union territories.


“She had been complaining about extreme cold and ill health, and there was no heating arrangement as well,” a senior police official told ET on condition of anonymity.

J&K administration has detained about 30 mainstream politicians at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) on the banks of Dal Lake.

It is mulling over shifting them to the MLA hostel on MA Road from the SKICC. “I was concerned about the health of my mother, but nobody was listening. The hut she was kept in had cracked windows and there was no adequate heating arrangement,” Iltija Mufti, daughter of Mehbooba Mufti, told ET.
