Mehbooba Mufti has no right to sit on CM's chair: Omar Abdullah

JAMMU: National Conference president and leader of the opposition Omar Abdullah on Tuesday asked J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti to take responsibility of the killings in Valley stating that she has no right to sit on the chair.

Former chief minister blamed, Mufti for failing in her promises of bringing peace and initiating dialogue between India and Pakistan. Abdullah lashed out at Mufti for pointing finger at everybody else other than herself for the political uprising and its fallout in the Valley.

"This chair demands that you accept and own your wrongs to learn from them. If you (Mehbooba Mufti) continue to blame others then you have no right to sit on this chair," said Abdullah, during the discussion over killings in the Valley. The chief minister was scheduled to reply in the afternoon but she flew to Srinagar, which angered the opposition who staged a walkout in protest.

After killing of Burhan Wani on July 8 last year, Abdullah said the PDP-BJP government's approach was causal while dealing with situation. “The government, according to Abdullah reacted with ‘missteps, misadventures, confusions and contradictions. It was not clear whether the situation was dealt from Srinagar or New Delhi,” he said.

While referring to government’s repeated reference to killings of civilians in 2010 under Abdullah led NC-Congress government, he said, "I have taken all responsibility of what happened in 2010. This government cannot answer 2016 by raising 2010. Did you ever take responsibility of these killings? You are your government is responsible for this situation," he said.

The NC leader mocked at the chief minister for blaming Pakistan, Hurriyat, opposition, media, bureaucracy, businessmen, children, parents, New Delhi and everybody else for what happened in Kashmir Valley. The chief minister is disconnected from the ground situation and thus dared to lie even before Supreme Court on August 4 2016, by saying that there was considerable improvement in situation. "This lie was followed by three killings and 400 injuries, the next day," Abdullah said.

About the killing of Wani, Abdullah, said government was floating at least four contradictory theories leaving everybody confused. "You say you would have given Burhan another chance, your Finance Minister termed it as fake encounter and alleged that Burhan was killed in fake encounter. Was Burhan killed by mistake?" asked Abdullah.

The NC leader urged the government to clarify, whether Burhan would have been pardoned if government knew Burhan was at the encounter site.

"Or did some police officers conspire to weaken the chief minister by killing Burhan as stated by parliamentarian Muzaffar Hussain Baig? Abdullah said. Senior Congress leader and former minister Nawang Rigzin Jora also blamed Mufti for killing of civilians in Kashmir.
