Meghalaya to reconstitute Uranium Committee
Meghalaya government would reconstitute the All Party Committee on Uranium to get the views of the assembly members on mining of the heavy metal in the state, Chief Minister Donkupar Roy said on Thursday.
Replying to the resolution moved by an opposition Congress member, R C Laloo, Roy told the assembly that the committee was formed by the previous Congress government but since it was done just before the assembly polls no decision could be taken.
Laloo had said in his resolution that there were conflicting opinions on uranium mining in Meghalaya and sought a comprehensive report.
Former Meghalaya Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition D D Lapang urged the Meghalaya Progressive Alliance government to revive the All Party Committee on Uranium constituted during his tenure.
