Meghalaya CM Mukul Sangm wants state to be on India's sports map

Meghalaya CM Mukul Sangma said his government was determined to bring the state onto the national map as a destination for sporting activities.

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma today said his government was determined to bring the state onto the national map as a destination for sporting activities.

He said the government is working on programmes to invest and upgrade sports and related infrastructure in the state.

Inaugurating the 2nd Rev Meshak Kharkongor Invitation Football tournament at Mawlai here, the Chief Minister said the government is looking for possible partners to promote sports and youth oriented activities in the state.

Sixteen teams participated in the inter-school march past competition which preceded the first match of the tournament even as he declared that the Madan Heh stadium would soon get the needed attention from the government.

Reminding that 2012 has been declared as the year of the youth by the state government, he also announced his personal aid towards the tournament by sponsoring Rs 1 lakh to the winning team of the tournament and Rs 50000 to the runners up.
