Christians in Meghalaya today celebrated Easter to mark the resurrection of Jesus Christ, with religious fervour.

SHILLONG: Christians in Meghalaya today celebrated Easter to mark the resurrection of Jesus Christ, with religious fervour.

Various Christian denominations, including the Roman Catholic Church, Presbyterian Church, Church of God, Baptist Church besides other Christian denominations arranged special programmes like sunrise services, Easter Sunday sermons and choirs to mark the day.

Christians believe that the resurrection of Jesus, three days after Good Friday, was a sign of victory over sin and death.

Greeting the people of the state on the occasion, Governor K N Tripathy said, "Easter is a festival of hope and resurrection of Christ. I convey my warm greetings ... and wish them a holy Easter."

Chief Minister Mukul Sangma wished that the resurrection day filled the people with the spirit of love, renewed hope and abundant blessings.
