Medical report confirms doctor driving Mercedes Benz was drunk
BENGALURU: The medical examination report has proved that orthopedic surgeon Dr NS Shankar (55), who rammed his Mercedes Benz into a few vehicles before killing a biker and injuring five others in Jayanagar on Sunday, was under the influence of alcohol.

Judge Lathakumari of VI additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court denied bail to him. He has been remanded to 14 days judicial custody.

Shankar is an orthopaedic surgeon and a resident of Habitat Heights apartments on Temple Road in ITI Colony, Banashankari III stage. He runs Siddharatha Clinic, which is located on 27th cross in Jayanagar III block.

The accused was arrested by the ci ty police on Sunday af ter he hit a bike and rammed his car into a house killing Rizwan Pasha (52) a tailor and injuring injuring five others.

During the hearing of the case, police had submitted the medical report before VI ACMM court confir ming that he was un der the influence of alcohol while driving the car. Police further sought more time as they suspect Shankar could also have consumed narcotic drugs and are awaiting a report from the Forensic Science laboratories.

Shankar screamed in the open court hall that he was beaten and harassed by the police during his custody.

The prosecution, however, informed the court that the police saved Shankar from being lynched by the crowd at the accident site.

“Police reached the accident spot soon. In case they had come a little later, the crowd would have probably killed him,“ the prosecutor said. “He should thank the police instead of blaming that he was harassed during custody,“ he added.
