Media should give correct picture of House proceedings: Speaker of J&K Assembly Mohammad Akbar Lone

SRINAGAR: Speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Mohammad Akbar Lone has asked the media to give " fair coverage" to both treasury and opposition members during the autumn session of legislature scheduled to begin on Monday.

"Media should give fair coverage to both the treasury as well as opposition benches so that the people they represent in the House come to know about their work," Lone said during the Press Advisory Committee meeting here yesterday.

In a parliamentary democracy, people were the best judge of the work of legislators and it is the duty of the media to present the correct picture of House proceedings, he said.

Taking cognisance of suggestions from representatives of the media, Lone promptly gave directions to the Assembly Secretary, ADGP Security and Traffic officials to ensure facilitation of media persons in the discharge of their professional duties.

The traffic department will issue special vehicle passes for facilitating entry of journalists to the highly guarded Assembly complex.

The Speaker also allowed journalists to carry laptops to the Assembly hall while the State Information Department will set up a media centre for them in the complex.
