Media report on Hina Rabbani Khar's comments 'inaccurate': Pakistan

According to the report, Khar made the remarks during a final brainstorming session with senior officials of the Foreign Office.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan today dismissed as "inaccurate and out of context" a media report that had quoted Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar as saying that there was a need for an "out-of-the box" solution to the Kashmir issue and that militancy would not help in resolving the dispute with India.

According to the report, Khar, whose term will end on March 16 when the government completes its five-year term, made the remarks during a final brainstorming session with senior officials of the Foreign Office.

She impressed on the need for an "out-of-the box" solution of the Kashmir issue making it clear that "militancy would not help in resolving the issue while military power is also not an option", The News daily had reported today.

However, a statement issued by Foreign Office spokesman Moazzam Khan on Khar's meeting with officers of the Foreign Service said the comments attributed to the Foreign Minister in the news report were "grossly misquoted, inaccurate and out of context".

Khan said that "reporting on a closed meeting on a hearsay basis was against the basic norms of responsible journalism".
