Media protecting corporate interests: CPI-M leader

Marxism was a scientific theory which could deal with the problems of the present, while spirituality was based on static and eternal principles, he said.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Media in India and around the world were now protecting interests of Corporates and not the common man, CPI-M Polit Bureau member S Ramachandran Pillai said here today.

"Post-modernist ideas help them to protect the interests of globalisation. They are not being led by awareness of real internationalism, but narrow identity politics," Pillai said, speaking after releasing the second volume of Malayalam version of `Das Kapital' by Karl Marx.

Pillai said media was promoting anarchic individualistic groups and individuals thereby protecting the interests behind globalisation and worked against genuine organised movements around the world.

Marxism was a scientific theory which could deal with the problems of the present, while spirituality was based on static and eternal principles, he said.

Co-operation Minister G Sudhakaran presided over the function. The second volume of the translation of Marx' work is being published by the Sahitya Pravarthaka Sahakarana Sanghom under the Co-operation department.
